CONSUMPTION BASED ON SOCIAL CLASSES

People from different social classes of the society always describe distinctive characteristics which are always unique to each of their social classes. These features have been seen to be attributed to various factors in line with the societal perception of each social class at a particular point in time. This descriptive article is based on the changes in the imagined democracy consumption and reproduction of elites in Yemen. The research article seeks to answer important questions on the patterns that have signified social class consumption, the class perception of democracy and the level of production of every person depending on their varied social classes.

The author’s principal argument is our general understanding of identity, inequalities, and how all these are attributed to the social classes in which individuals may belong. Considerably, the author’s main argument is a case study based on the Yemeni perception of identity, inequality, and social case and the different changes these aspects have seen over time. The argument is structured in a way where we are first introduced to various forms of consumption based on social class in different parts of the globe and how an individual’s social class dictate what he or she consumes.

The structure takes a twist to the case study social class setting of Yemeni riches and the poor social classes of Yemen. In this section, there are factors as well as characteristics that signify it. These factors include; a categorical level of consumption by different social classes and general perception of the wielders of riches. An example of the various consumption patterns is described by consumption goods and domesticity as described by the author. The author then highlights the changes that have been witnessed in defying consumer regimes and finally recommends on the validity of material consumption depend on an individual’s social class.

It is certainly true that a person will consume particular goods based on his or her taste and preference. Taste and preference are dictated by an individual’s financial ability; you can’t consume what you can’t afford. The confusing part in the author’s description of social class consumption is the inheritance of riches. The pattern of wealth inheritance has categorically changed as a result of consumer defiance of consumption based on social class belonging. The question I would ask the author is, how does consumer defiance affect the general perception of social class-based consumption? The question answers the text on the validity social class belonging and consumption.

Social class and its effects on consumer production as well as the general role in which each person plays in the society has had a huge impact on the choice of responsibilities among members of the society. Socio-economically, individuals will choose responsibilities according to their social classes. The culture of product consumption is altered since an individual’s consumption is determined by his or her social class. It is unjust since individuals will likely be barred from accessing certain goods and services because of the social class they to which they belong.

Social class defiance has however benefited many. Individuals can now access what they want to irrespective of their social classes so long as they have the ability to buy the product or service. The argument can be used to modify our general perception of social class and socio-economic ability. An individual should never be blinded of the skills he or she possesses by his or her social class.
